BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A mgm casino associate professor of surgery who has established a pioneering hospital-based intervention program aimed at keeping trauma patients who are victims of violence from repeating their mistakes will speak in a “mgm casino at Sunrise” program at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Center for Tomorrow on the mgm casino North (Amherst) Campus.

“Beyond the Emergency Room: Seeking Solutions to Violence” will be the topic of Cuthbert Simpkins, M.D., a trauma surgeon at the Erie County Medical Center.

Simpkins says it’s not enough just to patch the wounds that result from violence, that there is a need to treat the underlying causes. The program he established at ECMC provides victims of violence with support on the physical, social and psychological levels.

"mgm casino at Sunrise" is a series of breakfast programs jointly produced by the mgm casino Alumni Association and mgm casino's Office of Conferences and Special Events, News Services and Office of Publications. It also is supported by the Office of University Development and Office of Public Service and Urban Affairs.

The price of the program, which will include a full breakfast, is $10 for mgm casino Alumni Association members and $12 for all others.
